What is the Hawaiʻi True Cost Coalition?
The Hawaii True Cost Coalition is comprised of over 50 community-based nonprofit organizations (serving over 500,000 people across the state) that have come together to improve the ways nonprofits and the state work together to equitably, fairly, and efficiently use taxpayer money to provide quality services to the most vulnerable in our communities.
Who are the members of the Hawaiʻi True Cost Coalition?
Members of the hui include Parents and Children Together, Catholic Charities Hawaii, Maui Economic Opportunity, Hale Kipa, Aloha United Way, Domestic Violence Action Center, Lanakila Pacific, Child and Family Services, Hawaii Data Collaborative, Hawaii Health and Harm Reduction Center, and dozens more. Why the need for the Hawaiʻi True Cost Coalition?
Programs and services that the government contracts with community-based nonprofits are in danger. Government contract rates are set below the costs of providing the service, have not increased in the last decade and fail to cover full program costs, leaving nonprofits to fill in the gaps. Without action, programs and services are at risk of being cut or eliminated all together. The elimination of programs and services will harm the most vulnerable in our community, including domestic violence victims, foster and at-risk youth, low-income families and individuals, and the elderly.
