The Hawaii True Cost Coalition is comprised of over 70 community based nonprofit organizations, serving over 500,000 of people across the state, that have come together to improve the ways nonprofits and the state work together to equitably, fairly, and efficiently use taxpayer money to provide quality services to the most vulnerable in our communities.
Established in 2020, the Coalition aims to bring awareness that programs and services that the government contracts with nonprofit organizations, are in danger.
Despite hiring nonprofits to deliver vital services, such as support for victims of domestic violence, housing for foster and at-risk youth, and food for low-income and elderly, government contract rates are set below the costs of providing the service, have not increased in the last decade, and fail to cover full program costs, leaving nonprofits to fill in the gaps.
Without action, programs and services are at risk of being cut or eliminated all together, which will harm the most vulnerable in our community, including low-income families and individuals, foster and at-risk youth, the elderly, and the houseless.
Our Goal
We strive to ensure that government funding adequately and sustainably covers the true costs of providing governmental services by Hawai’i non-profit organizations.
